Why We Ask That Your Child is Supervised by an Adult While in Our Store

As a retail store focused on handmade skincare, we have the usual policies in place such as what payments we take, fees that are charged for bounced checks, and we also ask that children are supervised by an adult while they are in our store. While many people might not agree with our policy, there is a very important reason why we specifically ask that children are to be supervised by an adult while in our store.

The main reason why we ask that children are supervised by an adult is liability. We can not be held liable for any injuries should they trip or hurt themselves while in our store. Another huge reason why we ask that children are supervised is in case they have allergies to certain ingredients, we want to take extra precautions especially since many of our soaps are made with coconut, almond, and essential oils. Due to the fact that we simply can not tell who is allergic to what ingredients when they walk through our store, we must use caution especially with children.

I recently read an article about a 3-year-old that died due to an allergic reaction to milk. It breaks my heart for parents to have something like that happen, let alone their child suffer in any way. I have young child of my own, and I appreciate policies that are in place to where children must be supervised by an adult. It tells me that the company cares.

Being 16 and over is different. By the time a child turns 16, they typically are able to drive and work in the state of North Carolina. Our policy is general and typically applies to children 13 and under. I would rather be safe than sorry, and I hope that our customers will understand our level of concern for the safety of their children. However, we do realize that not everyone will agree, but there are many children who suffer from severe allergies to nuts, milk, and other ingredients that may be in our soaps.

Some children have allergies so severe that they may go into anaphylactic shock from skin contact of an allergen. There is more information on the matter here if you wish to read up.

So, while we love children and we do wish to see you and your children in our store, we would just feel better if you were there with them for safety reasons.
